The Herald of Free Enterprise Story.
Originally published in 2014, Iain Yardley’s Ninety Seconds at Zeebrugge: The Herald of Free Enterprise Story, has been updated and is now available in paperback.
Herald of Free Enterprise set sail on a routine voyage to Dover in March 1987, carrying hundreds of passengers, including British army personnel, day-trippers, and car and lorry drivers. Minutes after leaving Zeebrugge, the ferry began to capsize. Terrified passengers were separated from loved ones, plunged into in freezing cold water, fighting for their lives. This is the minute-by-minute account from people who lived through the disaster, from the event to rescue, reunion and repatriation. This new edition contains additional or expanded stories from survivors and relatives frequently expressing the long-term impact of the disaster on their lives. The book considers how the disaster changed ferry operating procedures forever and how the trial paved the way for the Corporate Manslaughter Act.
